Deputy Mayor Revital Gonen, who also holds the education portfolio, announced on Sunday, 19 July 2026, that the municipality has instructed its enforcement teams to remove signs around the city that encourage non-compliance with military call-up orders.
In a public statement, Gonen said Harish belongs to all its secular, religious and Haredi residents, and that public space "will not serve as a stage" for campaigns that encourage failure to report for service or that target IDF soldiers, reservists and their families. She said the removal was carried out under the law and the city's signage regulations.
"This is not a position against one public or another," she wrote. "It is a clear position in favor of the rule of law, in favor of shared responsibility, and in favor of those who carry the burden of security for us all."
The municipality did not say who was behind the signs.
