The "Meir HaShachar" community in the HaPrachim (Flowers) neighborhood of Harish celebrated an emotional ceremony on Sunday for the dedication of a new Torah scroll, donated by the Ben Shimchoni family in memory of the family's late father. It is the second Torah scroll to enter the community within roughly a year and a half, after a previous scroll was donated about a year earlier by the Wahnish family.
The ceremony began with a visit to the grave of the deceased. Afterward, family members, members of the community and guests gathered at the family home to complete the writing of the final letters of the scroll. Harish's city rabbi, Rabbi Asher Zagdon, took part in the event and offered words of blessing.
Once the writing was completed, a festive procession set out — accompanied by singing and dancing — toward the "Meir HaShachar" synagogue at 8 Lotem Street, where the Torah scroll was welcomed with great joy and placed in the ark. The celebration continued with a festive meal attended by community members and guests. The community is led by its rabbi, Rabbi Dan Yaakov Cohen.
