On Tuesday, 22 September 2026, police officers from the Iron station in the Menashe region seized a large quantity of cigarettes and tobacco from a truck in Harish, as part of an enforcement operation against smuggling.
A search of the truck turned up about 1,300 packs of cigarettes, roughly 160 kg of loose tobacco and around 65 kg of hookah (nargila) tobacco. The unpaid taxes on the goods are estimated at about 600,000 shekels.
The suspect, a 34-year-old resident of Ma'ale Iron, was arrested and taken for questioning at the Iron station.
It was the second significant interception in the area this month. Earlier in September, Iron station officers foiled an attempt to smuggle some 360 packs of cigarettes, worth about 80,000 shekels, in a truck near Barta'a.
