The Harish municipality has completed the installation of 82 new road signs beside pedestrian crossings across the city, in a push to improve safety for people on foot.
The signs were placed at key locations, with an emphasis on areas around education institutions, community centers and hubs with heavy pedestrian traffic. They are designed to be prominent and clear during daylight hours, and after dark they operate with flashing lights that improve the visibility of the crosswalks. When drivers identify a crossing from a greater distance, the municipality noted, they have more time to slow down — making the crossing safer for pedestrians.
The installation is part of a broader effort around pedestrian safety in a city with an unusually high share of children among its residents, where school-run hours put large numbers of young pedestrians on the streets at the same time each day.
The project joins other safety and security infrastructure work completed in recent weeks, including the first delivery of an advanced camera network in the city's northeast and the imminent launch of the municipal policing unit.
