A dog was killed in Harish's HaHoresh neighborhood on Tuesday after being attacked by two dogs identified by eyewitnesses as pit bulls, in an incident first reported in the local Hadashot Harish network.

According to accounts from the scene, the attack went on for long minutes while residents who were nearby tried to pull the animals apart and save the dog under attack. Despite the rescue attempts, the dog collapsed and died at the scene.

The dog's owner was lightly injured in the hand during the incident and also suffered from anxiety. Medics from the MDA-Hatzalah Sharon response network treated her on site.

Police officers arrived at the scene and opened an examination into the circumstances of the incident. No further details about the attacking dogs or their owner were released as of publication.

The case adds to a series of animal-related incidents that have drawn attention in the city over the past year, and is likely to renew discussion among residents about enforcement of leashing and dangerous-breed regulations in public spaces.
