What began as ideas tossed around on the way home from work has become a finished product: two Harish residents have launched a new mobile app version of "Yaniv," the fast-paced card game beloved by Israeli backpackers and schoolyards alike, now available for download on both the App Store and Google Play.

The two friends, both 32 and longtime Harish residents who enjoy brainstorming technology ventures, decided about a year ago to realize a dream and build a first venture of their own. The idea was born, fittingly, during a stretch of military reserve duty, when the friends wanted to play Yaniv but could not find an app that offered a quality, smooth and enjoyable playing experience — on either iPhone or Android.

They set out to build the Yaniv app they themselves would want to play — a project that consumed evenings, weekends and every free moment over long months of development, polish and refinement of the game experience.

The launch is a small but telling data point for Harish's slowly forming local tech scene — a city with a high concentration of young professionals who commute to jobs elsewhere, and where home-grown ventures remain a novelty worth celebrating. As the local news desk that first reported the story put it: support local development.
