Heavy mourning descended on family, friends and acquaintances in Harish with the passing of city resident Rabbi Yaakov Ben Shlomo, who died at 45 after a prolonged battle with a serious illness. He leaves behind his wife and seven children, six of whom have not yet reached the wedding canopy.
According to the family, the illness was discovered about two and a half years ago, after a period in which he suffered from weakness, dizziness and repeated fainting episodes. The final diagnosis arrived in the very days when the family was preparing for the wedding of his eldest daughter — turning a season of celebration into the start of a difficult medical journey that included ongoing treatments and hospitalizations, primarily in oncology departments, with his family at his side throughout.
Despite his condition, those close to him say, he continued working as long as he could to support his family, out of a deep sense of responsibility.
His passing leaves the family facing significant hardship, and members of the community have begun organizing to support the widow and orphans — in keeping with the communal mobilization that has become a hallmark of Harish's religious neighborhoods in times of crisis.
